An NSCN-IM cadre identified as Khampai Wangsu was nabbed by a joint team of the police and CRPF from Amolapatty area of Dibrugarh in eastern Assam on Friday night.

According to police the NSCN-IM cadre had arrived from Dimapur in Nagaland and was camping in Dibrugarh for last several days to collect extortion money on behalf of the militant outfit under the direction of the top brass.

“We had information that an NSCN cadre was indulging in terror funding activities in Dibrugarh town. Yesterday we launched an operation and nabbed a person named Kazimuddin from a Bolero vehicle (AS/04-G-4803). Following his confession, we managed to arrest an NSCN-IM cadre who admitted to that he was involved in collecting extortion money. Following his lead we manage to nab four persons from Arunachal Pradesh with Rs 15 lakh cash. The amount, we suspect was extortion money which was to be handed over to the nabbed cadre. Interrogation is going on,” Dibrugarh additional SP Dhruba Bora on Saturday said.

Although the police did not elaborate, sources said that among the four held with cash, two were junior engineers, one an assistant engineer and another a lower division clerk of the Rural Works Department (RWD) of Arunachal Pradesh. The nabbed NSCN-IM cadre hailed from Nausa village in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
