At a time when the entire world is fighting against to curb the spread of COVID-19, a family in Majuli has been spending sleepless nights for months.
One Prashanta Das, a resident of Afolamukh village under Majuli’s Dakhipat Village Panchayat has been “missing” since October 2019, family sources informed.
“He went to Hyderabad in last October in search of a job but since then we do not have any information regarding his whereabouts,” said Prashanta’s wife Sumi Das.
“Neither has he called nor have we been able to contact him and know if he is okay,” she further added.
Locals informed that the couple got married some years back and they have a baby boy as well who is just over a year old.
“In his absence, the family is going through a difficult time. We have been helping them with whatever little we can,” said a neighbour.
“In the last storm their house was also damaged severely and the villagers got together to fix it with whatever little resources we had,” the neighbour further added.
It was further informed by the family members that even though they have informed the local police and district administration orally regarding Prashanta’s missing, a written complaint, however, is yet to be lodged.
“The family members have approached the police and the local administration and sought their help in tracing Prashanta. However, they are yet to file a written complaint,” said another neighbour.
Prashanta’s father expired a couple of years back and since then he was doing odd jobs in the village to meet the expenses of his family.
However, in October last year, he decided to go to Hyderabad, searching for a better future and hoping to earn enough to support his family.
The family members and the villagers are now touch worried after he did not contact even after over six months.
“We just hope he is fine and he returns home soon,” said another neighbour.
“We are hopeful the police department and the local administration will come in aid of the poor lady and help her in tracing her missing husband,” the neighbour added.
