Guwahati: Darrang police have busted an alleged sex racket operating from a lodge in Kharupetia town and detained nine people, including four women, following a raid based on specific information.

Darrang Superintendent of Police Sarmistha Baruah said the operation was conducted on Friday at a lodge named Oyo Nexo, where the alleged racket was operating.

During the raid, police found several couples at the lodge without proper documentation and under suspicious circumstances, Baruah told reporters.

The individuals were taken to Kharupetia police station for questioning. A preliminary inquiry reportedly revealed that two women had allegedly been supplied by the lodge authorities to two men for a fixed rate and period.

Police seized the lodgeโ€™s registers and other documents, including a no-objection certificate from the local urban body and a notice from the Fire and Emergency Services department concerning compliance with fire safety regulations. The documents were seized in the presence of independent witnesses, Baruah said.

Police also searched the rooms and found packets of condoms in almost every room.

The prime accused and joint owners of the lodge, identified as Rafik Ali and Banesh Ali, both residents of Bhakatpara, are absconding.

Further investigation is underway.
