The Carriage & Wagon (C&W) Workshop at NBQ received the Rajbhasha Shield and a cash prize of Rs 14,000 from the Ministry of Railways for exemplary implementation of Rajbhasha in 2024.

Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded significant progress in infrastructure and operations at Assam’s New Bongaigaon (NBQ) Workshop during December 2025, reflecting its focus on modernization and efficient maintenance of rolling stock.

The Carriage & Wagon (C&W) Workshop at NBQ received the Rajbhasha Shield and a cash prize of Rs 14,000 from the Ministry of Railways for exemplary implementation of Rajbhasha in 2024.

During the month, the workshop developed an indigenous test bench for DEMU DPC bogies, allowing pre-installation testing of traction motors.

The system includes one-hour run tests, real-time monitoring of vibrations and bearing temperatures, and precise measurements, saving time and manpower.

The workshop also began mid-life rehabilitation (MLR) of 25 LHB coaches. Temporary arrangements using the old Coach Lifting Shop ensured smooth commencement of MLR activities while a proposal for a dedicated MLR shed is under consideration.

Additionally, all POH activities for DEMU rakes were shifted from the old Wagon Paint Shop to a new DEMU shed, enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and productivity.

These steps reflect NFRโ€™s ongoing focus on infrastructure development, innovation, and efficient maintenance to ensure safe and reliable railway operations.
