Assam flood relief
Assam has disbursed nearly Rs 150 crore in flood relief, while damage assessment has reached 75% across affected areas.

Guwahati: Nearly Rs 150 crore in interim assistance has reached flood-hit families in Assam, with the state government aiming to settle all remaining eligible claims by Monday, August 17.

The update emerged from a review meeting on the ongoing flood response, where officials reported that around 75 per cent of the damage assessment has been completed. More than 1,000 surveyors are working in affected areas to finish the remaining assessment at the earliest.

Restoration of essential services and public infrastructure was also reviewed. Repairs are underway at 793 schools, which are being readied to reopen once necessary work is completed. Flood-damaged roads and other government infrastructure are also being restored on a priority basis.

In Sivasagar, high-capacity pumps have been running continuously to remove stagnant water from low-lying areas and help communities return to normal conditions.

The health department is expanding medical camps in flood-affected locations, with authorities keeping a close watch for water-borne diseases and other health risks that could emerge after prolonged inundation.

The review also covered relief linked to loans and insurance. Eligible beneficiaries have been asked to file their claims by August 30 so that the cases can be processed without unnecessary delays.

Officials are mapping compensation and other assistance to identify every affected household and ensure that eligible families receive the support due to them.

The government has instructed departments to accelerate relief and reconstruction work, warning that any delay or negligence in implementing flood-response measures will be dealt with strictly.
