Assam Pradyumna Kumar Gogoi

Northeast Now journalist and promising young writer Pradymna Kumar Gogoi has been conferred the prestigious Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2021.

Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust on Monday announced its decision to honour Pradymna Kumar Gogoi with the literary award for his short story collection ‘Choki Aru Anyanya Galpa’.

The Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust every year honours the talented young Assamese writers with the Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2021 in the memory of litterateur, critic and journalist late Munin Barkotoki.

The award is given to the young Assamese writers to encourage them.

The Trust has termed Pradymna Kumar Gogoi, the recipient of the award this year as a “promising young story writer of Assamese language”.

The Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust was formed in 1995 to promote the cause of literature in Assamese, in all genres and, in original as well as translation.

The award, which was first announced in 1995, carries a cash amount of Rs 50,000, a memento and a citation.

Pradymna Kumar Gogoi, who hails from Doigrung in Assam’s Golaghat district, is currently working as a journalist at Northeast Now, a news portal based in Guwahati.

Munin Barkotoki (1915-1993) was a man of wide-ranging curiosity and exceptionally varied interests.

His passions included literature, journalism, theatre, film, music, painting, sports and politics.

Barkotoki exerted a quiet but effective influence on the literary scene in Assam in his role as a conscientious man of letters open to new ideas and experiments.
