Dibrugarh: A new Mother-Newborn Care Unit was inaugurated at the Neonatal Unit of the Department of Paediatrics at Assam Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.
The facility has been established to strengthen healthcare services for mothers and newborns, with a focus on providing care to both together.
The unit was inaugurated by Dr Sanjib Kakoti, Principal of Assam Medical College, in the presence of Dr Pranoy Phukan and Professor Dr Rita Bora, In-charge of the Neonatal Unit.
Assam Medical College and Hospital, along with four other hospitals in the Northeast, has also been selected as a Regional Collaborative Centre for Facility Based Newborn Care (FBNC) for the first time.
As part of the initiative, a 14-day Observership Programme on Facility Based Newborn Care was conducted, while a special workshop was held from August 19 to 22.
The newly established unit will provide both neonatal and maternal care, particularly supporting preterm and vulnerable newborns and their mothers.
The facility is expected to further strengthen mother-and-newborn healthcare services at Assam Medical College and Hospital.
