Guwahati: A minor was killed in an alleged elephant attack in Nagaon, Assam on Tuesday morning.

According to locals, the incident took place in the Kampur area of Nagaon, Assam.

The deceased was identified as Azizul Haque.

Earlier on Tuesday, a wild elephant was seen roaming around the villages in Kampur.

It was suspected that the elephant separated from its herd had been searching for food in the area.

However, during its search, the elephant came face to face with Haque.

While it was not known was prompted the attack by the elephant, it was suspected that it may have been agitated by the locals trying to chase it away.

Haque was trampled to death in a bit to escape.

He died on the spot before any medical help could arrive, locals said.

The forest department has also been deployed on the spot to control any further elephant “invasions” following the incident.

It may be mentioned that elephants often stray out of the reserve forest areas near Kampur in search of food.
