MGVK Bhanu, former IAS officer and Congress candidate for Tezpur constituency in the last Lok Sabha polls, has resigned from the party on Tuesday.
Bhanu joined the Congress on February 11 last.

In the Lok Sabha polls, Bhanu lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pallab Lochan Das.
He was an IAS officer of 1985 batch.
He retired as the additional chief secretary to the Assam government on July 31, 2018.

Bhanu served as the additional chief secretary to the labour and welfare department, Assam.
A former secretary of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy during deputation in 2004, Bhanu also served as the chairman of the Tea Board of India.
Despite repeated attempts, Bhanu could not be contacted over the phone.
However, a media report quoted Bhanu as saying: “I have nothing against the Congress party, but resigned due to personal reason.”
Bhanu has a special relation with Tezpur as he has accomplished many developmental works in the area during his posting there.
During the last Lok Sabha polls, he was appointed as the election in-charge of Jalukbari Assembly constituency, which is represented by Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

But in the last by-polls, he was not seen in Congress campaigns.
