The 28th Assam Masters Athletics meet scheduled to be held at Bokakhat in Golaghat district has been postponed indefinitely.

The athletics meet was scheduled to held from December 27 to 30 next.

A decision in this regard was taken on Sunday by the Assam Masters Athletics Association with respect to the prevailing situation in the State.

The general secretary of the central committee of the association, Dr R P Gohain informed this through a press release issued late Sunday.

The decision was taken at a central executive meeting held in Guwahati on Sunday.

Notably, AGP president and state minister Atul Bora, who is also the local legislator of Bokakhat was the president of the organizing committee of the athletics meet.

It is learnt that several students organizations and locals of Bokakhat expressed displeasure over Atul Bora’s stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

They also desired that Bora should stay away from organizing the athletics meet.

The region also witnessed protests from several quarters in this regard.

In this regard, the association decided to postpone the meet for an indefinite period.
