Guwahati: A massive consignment of foreign cigarettes was seized by the police in Cachar, Assam on Saturday.

Police sources said that based on inputs, they intercepted a suspicious truck near Lailapur.

The police said that the truck was immediately checked thoroughly.

On checking the truck bed, the police found a “secret” compartment which contained 50 cartons of cigarettes believed to be of foreign origin and contraband in India.

The truck bearing registration UP78DN3901 was immediately seized.

Two occupants of the truck were detained with the consignment.

They have been accused of smuggling.

The police said that they were identified as Shakir Khan and Rahul Kumar. Both were residents of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh.
