Guwahati: In Cachar district, Assam, a differently-abled girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour.

As per reports, the incident took place in Katigorah, about 30 km from Silchar on Sunday but only came to light on Wednesday.

The incident initially remained undisclosed as some locals attempted to handle it privately.

However, the girl’s mother refused to settle the matter internally and approached the police instead.

The girl’s mother filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Katigorah police station, reporting that her 19-year-old daughter was raped by their neighbour on Sunday afternoon.

At the time of the assault, the girl’s mother was at a flood relief camp, collecting supplies due to the ongoing floods.

The accused allegedly took the girl, who has hearing and speech impairments, to his home and raped her.

Upon returning from the relief camp, the daughter informed her mother about the incident, leading to a police complaint.

The accused has been identified as T Uddin.

The police have begun an investigation in connection with the incident.
