A conscious section of citizens in Mangaldai are showing “stiff resistance” to the haphazard and unplanned construction of commercial structures within the municipal limits area of the town.
It is reported that few commercial establishments in the town are violating Section 223/68 of the Municipal Act 1956 Taking serious note of the same, the Mangaldai Municipal Authority served show cause notice to the complex owner of a corporate retail shopping mall on Thursday, just on the day of its inauguration. The owners of the shopping mall – ‘Bazar India’ – located at LNB road of the town was all set to start their commercial operations from Thursday without a valid trade license from the Municipal authorities thereby violating Section 223/ 68 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956 .
Panchanan Sarma, the owner of the multi- storey complex has been asked to reply within the next seven days as to why action will not be initiated against the commercial establishment. The said episode has sent across a strong message to the bigger business houses in the town which includes the medical laboratories and imaging centres who often have the tendency of violating the different relevant provisions of the Municipal Act and Building Rules among others.
This is the first such incident of preliminary action against a mega commercial establishment in the recent history of the elected civic body.
