The police have arrested a person at Samaguri in Assam’s Nagaon district on charges of killing his woman.
The incident has taken place at Kuhumtoli village under Sivasthan Police Outpost and Samaguri Police Station.
According to police, the man first brutally assaulted his wife with a stick and later killed her by poisoning.
The alleged murderer has been identified as 24-year-old Nurul Haque of Kuhumtoli village while the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Rasjida Begum.
Police said, “Nurul Haque had been torturing his wife Rashita Begum since long due to domestic issues.”
“According to the allegations, Haque first brutally assaulted his wife with a stick and later killed her by poisoning,” said police.
The couple has a three-year-old girl child.
As the news of the incident reached the family members of the deceased, they immediately informed it to the Sivasthan police.
Later, a team of police from the Sivasthan Police Outpost rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the deceased.
The police team also detained the alleged murderer, Nurul Haque and later arrested him.
The locals alleged that to turn the incident into a case of suicide, Nurul Haque compelled his wife to consume poison and killed her.
The police have sent the body of the deceased to the Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital at Nagaon for conducting post-mortem.
“Investigation is on and we are interrogating Nurul Haque,” police said.
