Amid the spike in Covid-19 cases in Assam, the authorities of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) have decided to close down the elephant safaris for the visitor of the park for this season from April 30.

โ€œElephant Safari for visitors in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) shall remain closed with effect from April 30, 2021 for the tourist season 2020-2021,โ€ said a statement.

This has been stated in a general notice issued by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Bokakhat, the statement added.

The Kaziranga National Park, famous for the one-horned rhinos, was opened for tourists on October 21 last year after a gap of over seven months because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Assam.

This was the longest shutdown for the park in its 112-year history.
