Silchar: In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old woman from Karimganj district, Assam, allegedly killed her three minor children on Sunday.

The woman, identified as Sahara Begum, a resident of Dolugang village in Ramkrishna Nagar, also injured her younger sister before attempting to take her own life.

According to Partha Pratim Das, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Karimganj, police received information about the incident around 11 pm on Sunday.

Initial investigations suggest domestic issues may have been a motive. Begum’s husband was not at home at the time of the incident.

“The children were rushed to the nearest government hospital, but unfortunately, doctors declared them deceased,” said an investigating officer.

Begum’s younger sister, Sarmina Begum, is in critical condition but stable after receiving medical attention at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Police officials informed that an executive magistrate visited the scene to investigate. A spade, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered.

Clothes belonging to both the accused and the victims, along with blood samples collected from the spade, have been sent for forensic examination.

A case has been registered against Sahara Begum under Section 302 (murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested her.
