Assam: Karbi Anglong echoes Gandhi’s ideology through Sankalpa Yatra

East Karbi Anglong District Committee (EKADC) of the BJP organized Gandhi Sankalpa Yatra on Tuesday.

The programme was organized at Lumbajong and Dhansiri Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency to spread the principles and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

As part of the 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, the march was taken out from Gandhi Park to Birla market, covering a distance of three km.

The march was led by president, BJP, EKADC, Ratan Teron and chief executive member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang.

MP Horensing Bey, deputy chairman, KAAC, Ritesh Enghi, BJP, EKADC, general secretary Ajit Dey, general secretary and executive member, KAAC, Anar Tisso and others also participated.

In a public meeting held on the road side of Birla market, CEM, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang said the yatra was to propagate Gandhi’s values of peace and non-violence.

“Mahatma Gandhi also called Father of the Nation during the freedom movement has fought against the British through non-violence,” he said.

“He has launched a long march in various parts of the country to raise mass movement against the British through non-violence, the CEM added.

“Gandhi has taught social values and respect to each other,” he also said.

“This yatra we are taking out is to propagate his teachings and values,” the CEM further added.

The CEM also said under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah, Gandhi Sankalp Yatra is launched with a purpose to reach to every person in the nock and cranny the country.

Earlier, former Diphu MLA, Bidyasing Engleng criticized J I Kathar led All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) as being a party rejected long back by the people of Karbi Anglong.

“APHLC was formed way back in the 70s. After that the party ceased to exist due to loss of support. Now JI Kathar is reviving that party but has no acceptance. JI Kathar is not a factor for us and it will not take too long for JI Kathar to end his political career himself,” Engleng said.

MP Horensing Bey asked general public to practice the ideals of Gandhi’s non-violence and to make a polythene free society.

Use of single used plastic should be minimized to keep towns and villages free from plastic, Bey said.

Executive Member (EM), KAAC and president, BJP, KADC, Ratan Teron spoke about the importance of the yatra and the need to follow the teachings of Gandhi for peace and just.

From 1 pm the second yatra was taken out from Manja to Mohongdijua in Dhansiri MAC constituency.

In the public meeting HAD minister, Sum Ronghang mentioned that the yatra has to be conducted in each MAC constituencies and to follow strict party guidelines.

He said, “By organizing the yatra we are propagating the principles of Gandhi and to inherit the principles and teachings of Gandhi by the BJP.”

Similar yatra will be taken out in Singhason MAC constituency, Langfer and Phuloni MAC constituencies on Wednesday.
