Kamakhya Temple of Assam has been adjudged as the second runner up in Swachh Iconic Place in Phase I under the initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission.
The award will be presented in a function at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.
The Doloi of Kamkhya Temple Mohit Chandra Sarma, mission director of Swachh Bharat Mission Assam Mohan Lal Sureka and a host of other dignitaries are expected to attend the function in New Delhi.
The Swachh Iconic Place is an initiative under Swachh Bharat Mission focused on keeping the premises of some selected iconic places of heritage in the country neat and clean.
The initiative is being coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in association with the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and the concerned State governments.
In order to keep the iconic places of heritage in the country clean, the central government had added a number of such places in the list of Swachh Iconic places in three phases.
The iconic cultural places covered under Phase I include the Kamakhya Temple, Vaishnodevi Temple, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus,Taj Mahal, Tirupati Temple, Golden Temple, Manikarnika Ghat, Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Meenakshi Temple and Jagannath Temple.
Under Phase II, the iconic places covered include Gangotri, Yamunotri, Mahakaleshwar Temple, Charminar, Convent and Church of St Francis of Assissi, Kalady, Gommateswara, Baidyanath Dham, Gaya Tirth and Somnath temple.
The iconic cultural places under Phase III include Raghavendra Swamy Temple, Hazardwari Palace Brahma Sarovar Temple,Vidur Kuti ,Mana village, Pangong Lake, Nagvasuki Temple, Ima Keithal/market ,Sabarimala Temple and Kanvashram.
