Diganta Tanti, the accused in the murder of homeopathic doctor Rahul Basumatary, was granted bail on Tuesday as Jorhat Police failed to file chargesheet in the stipulated period, the defence lawyer Anup Dutta said.
The 26-year-old homeopathic doctor was found murdered in his rented house at bylane No 4 of Chandan Nagar in Jorhat.
He was an intern doctor of JK Memorial Homeopathic Medical College of Jorhat.

Rahul Basumatary hailed from Udalguri district of Assam and had completed his Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery degree in 2019 from J K Memorial Homeopathic Medical College in Jorhat.
Accused Tanti, who was a painter, was arrested by police within 24 hours of the discovery of the homeopathic doctor’s body on September 5 morning,
Tanti was arrested from his residence at Rajabari, Tocklai in Jorhat.
Basumatary’s stolen motorcycle and cellphone recovered from his possession.
The murderer of homeopathic doctor Rahul Basumatary had confessed to the crime and revealed that he had been in a homosexual relationship with the victim and murdered him after a quarrel.
