Journalists based in Upper Assam’s Jorhat on Thursday staged a sit in demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office demanding withdrawal of cases registered against a journalist.

They also demanded release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The protestors shouted slogans and demanded that the harassment on people who were protesting against the contentious CAA be stopped.

Jorhat police registered a case against Utpal Bora, a reporter with news channel Prag News for allegedly instigating anti-CAA protesters to show black flags to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

On December 30, a protester waved black flags at Sonowal at Chinnamara tea estate on outskirts of Jorhat.

Police later arrested the protester identified as Pritam Talukdar.

Police claimed that Talukdar had managed to get inside the venue allegedly with the help of the reporter.

Utpal is yet to be arrested.

According to the police other evidences had also been found to link the reporter to the protester.
