The court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate, Jorhat Sadar, on Thursday  granted bail to KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi in the Jorhat police station case (No:3498/2019).

Gogoi was arrested on the night of December 12 by Jorhat Police.

Meanwhile, a Akhil’s supporters staged a sit-in stir in front of the Jorhat deputy commissioner’s office complex at AT Road demanding immediate release of Akhil from NIA custody.

The protesters held placards and banners seeking release of Gogoi.

Several speakers including senior journalist and former president of Jorhat Press Club Niranjan Mahanta addressed the gathering demanded Akhil’s release.

They later submitted a memorandum to the President of India, through the Jorhat district administration, asking him to intervene for the release of Akhil and others for their alleged involvement in violence during protest against the CAA.

The court also granted bail to two Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) members Lakhyajyoti Gogoi and Manash Konwar.

They were arrested during the protest against the CAA.

The arrested persons were booked under Sections 120 (B), 145, 151, 153, 153 (A) 157, 158, 283, 291 and 431 of the IPC.

Another arrested KMSS local leader Dibyajyoti Sarmah was granted bail by the court about a week ago.

Akhil had participated in a massive anti-C(A)A protest held in front of Jorhat  DC  office complex at AT Road on December 11.
