Japanese Encephalitis has claimed one more life in Assam’s Darrang district.

According to reports, one Akkasuddin Ahmed (73), a retired sub inspector of Assam Police and resident of ward no 2 of Mangaldai town has died on Sunday midnight at Guwhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being admitted on the same day and detected Japanese Encephalitis positive.

The family sources said that on July 9, he was first admitted to Mangldai Civil Hospital following high fever and then he was shifted to a private hospital in Guwahati before being shifted to GMCH on Sunday.

With this case of death, the number of death cases due to Japanese Encephalitis in Darrang district has gone up to six over the last several weeks.

Earlier three persons from Mollapara, Medhipara and Gerimari under Jaljali PHC and two other persons of Duni and Turai under Pathorighat PHC have died of Japanese Encephalitis.

On the other hand, more than 12 other JE positive patients of the district reportedly still undergoing treatments in various hospitals of Guwahati.
