Along with rest of the country, Janmasthami was celebrated with traditional fanfare in Hojai district as well and devotees thronged the community prayer halls and temples across the district.

The birth of Lord Krishna was also celebrated under the aegis of Hojai District Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) with religious fervour at Geeta-ashram in Hojai on Friday.

On this occasion, day-long programmes were organised.

In the morning the VHP flag was hoisted and this was followed by cow worship and recitals of prayers praising Lord Krishna.

Later, a colourful procession with live tableaus of Lord Krishna and Radha was taken out from Laxminaryan temple.

In the evening ‘Matkki-Phod’ and several other competitions were held.

The prize for the best ‘Lord Krishna impersonate’ was also given away in the evening.
