Two under-trial prisoners, including a Bangladeshi national, have escaped from Karimganj jail in South Assam.

Karimganj SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna said Samsul Islam along with fellow inmate Nasim Ahmed, was suspected to have fled the prison on Wednesday after punching a hole in the tin roof of the district jail.

While Samsul hails from Moulabi Bazar district of Bangladesh and Nasim is a resident of Badarpur.

Police said Samsul was arrested in May 2018 for illegally entering India, while Ahmed was held in June last year on murder and drug-dealing charges.

Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the two undertrials, the SP said.
