Doomdooma: A 47-year-old woman was allegedly killed and her daughter critically injured after her husband allegedly attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon at their residence in Kumhari Patti in Assam’s Doomdooma in the early hours of Friday.
The accused, identified as 50-year-old Raj Kumar Yadav, allegedly entered the room where his wife, Lakshmi Devi, was sleeping at around 1:30 am and attacked her. She sustained serious injuries and died in the incident.
Their daughter, Kiran, who was reportedly sleeping with her mother, attempted to intervene and was allegedly attacked by her father with the same weapon.
She suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital with the help of police and neighbours.
Considering the seriousness of her condition, doctors advised that Kiran be shifted to Dibrugarh. She is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital there.
Police sent Lakshmi Devi’s body for post-mortem examination and detained Raj Kumar Yadav in connection with the incident. Further investigation is underway.
According to family sources, Kiran, a graduate, had recently got engaged. Her brother, Akash Yadav, is serving in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident comes days after another woman, the wife of a factory manager at Daimukhia Tea Estate, was found dead in the Doomdooma area on Wednesday night under circumstances that are yet to be fully established.
