In a horrific road accident, at least four persons died on Friday evening at Dhanubhanga near Dudhnoi, Assam around at 6:45 pm.

The accident occurred when a Tata Winger passenger vehicle, No. AS01-EC, 2371, carrying a picnic party tried to overtake a speedy truck. The front side of the Winger collided with the truck and was badly crushed.

The sudden collision was so horrible that it led to on spot deaths of four passengers of the Winger who were identified as Karendra, Bhupendra Rabha, Phatik Rabha and a woman Sunita Rabha.

All of the passengers hail from Damra, Assam Meghalaya border of Goalpara district and they were returning from the Chandubi festival at Kamrup Rural district.

Meanwhile, Goalpara district police has appealed to the citizens, vehicle owners to take special precautions while on the road to minimize accidents. ‘The traffic is increasing day by day on the national highways and we have been witnessing many accidents in the district including those on the NH-37. Therefore, we appeal people to be more careful especially during this winter season to avoid road mishaps’, said Amitava Sinha, superintendent of police Goalpara.

Amitava Sinha further added that altogether 128 people lost their lives only in the year 2018 in the district due to the several hundred road accidents. ‘Wearing helmets by the pillion riders and driving at a moderate speed will certainly decrease the number of accidents. Moreover, the picnic parties should check whether their drivers are drunk and driving ‘, added he.’ People can also help the administration by uploading the photos of traffic violators on social media like Facebook, Twitter etc.”, said he.
