Assam: Hojai records 4 Japanese Encephalitis positive cases

With cases of Japanese Encephalitis on the rise across Assam, the Hojai district of the state has also recorded four positive cases of Japanese Encephalitis.

A 10-year-old boy died of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) while undergoing treatment in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) recently.

According to information, apart from the four Japanese Encephalitis positive cases, two other persons of Hojai district, detected with Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), are undergoing treatment.

Talking to media persons, Basudev Malakar, superintendent of Hojai Civil Hospital, said, “Four patients detected with Japanese Encephalitis in the district have been undergoing treatment while two other persons have been suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).”

Malakar also informed, “One Masum Khan, 10-year-old child of SOS Children’s Village, Hojai expired on July 12 at Gauhati Medical College in Guwahati  while he was undergoing treatment.”

“He was suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) with extra ventricular hydrocephalus,” he added.

The patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis have been identified as 57-year-old Shanti Seal of Govind Pally in Hojai, 16-year-old Mrinmoye Bora of Jamnamukh, 90-year-old Salman Ahmed of Daboka and 5-year-old Chandrimaa Rongpi of Parkhowa.

The names of patients suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) have been identified as 8-year-old Raj Seal of Lanka and 65-year-old Dhiren Kalita of Rampur in Hojai.
