The construction work of the new medical college and hospital in North Lakhimpur is going on a war footing and Assam Health, Finance & PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hoped it would be completed in time.
Though the foundation of the construction of North Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital was laid in 2011, the construction work was stalled due to non-acquisition of land for the project.
After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government at Dispur, the land acquisition process was expedited by the Lakhimpur DC and the State Health Department, and the process was completed within 45 days.
The ‘Bhumi Pujan’ took place at the inaugural ceremony of construction works for the medical college on April 17, 2017 in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health & Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has been constructing the medical college and hospital in North Lakhimpur, the district headquarters of Lakhimpur district.
Health & PWD Minister Sarma while expressing his satisfaction at the progress of the construction work of the medical college & hospital on Monday tweeted: “PWD is working overtime to complete New Medical College and Hospital in North Lakhimpur in time.”
The minister also shared some images of the ongoing construction activities on his Twitter handle on Monday.
It may be mentioned that the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner on September 9, 2016 handed over the land to the Health Department for construction of the medical college and hospital.
On May 29 this year, Health & PWD Minister ?Sarma visited the under-construction site of North Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital along with Minister of State for Health Pijush Hazarika, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and other MLAs.
