Guwahati: As the counting for the Lok Sabha elections nearly comes to an end, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday claimed that BJP leader and MLA Mrinal Saikia might soon leave the party.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Mrinal Saikia’s actions seem like he might soon leave the BJP.
The statement came after Mrinal Saikia allegedly congratulated a Congress candidate instead of congratulating Narendra Modi for his win.

Sarma further claimed that Mrinal Saikia had also earlier criticised Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah.
The CM also claimed that Jayanta Mallabaruah had done much better work that Saikia.
He claimed, “He might have taken a decision to not stay with the BJP. He congratulated the Congress for winning three seats but did not speak a word when BJP won 11 seats.”
The CM further added that there might be some discontent that he is now attempting to leave the party.
“He could have told me or the party president if he was not happy about anything”, Sarma said.
It may be mentioned that Mrinal Saikia had congratulated Gaurav Gogoi for winning the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat on his social media handle.
In the social media post, Saikia wrote, “Special congratulations to Gaurav Gogoi for your amazing win. This result is very significant in Jorhat in many ways. The outcome proved that- money, big publicity, overdoses of leaders and arrogant speeches do not always help to win elections.”
