Guwahati: The Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF is facing one of its worst electoral defeats, trailing in all three Lok Sabha seats it contested in Assam. According to Election Commission data, the AIUDF has garnered only 3.03% of the votes in Assam.

In Dhubri, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is trailing by a significant margin of 902,371 votes. Rakibul Hussain of the Congress has secured 1,319,499 votes in this constituency.

Similarly, AIUDF candidate Aminul Islam is trailing by 589,927 votes in Nagaon, where his main opponent, Pradyut Bordoloi from the Congress, has received over 600,000 votes.

In Karimganj, the third AIUDF candidate, Sahabul Islam Choudhury, is trailing behind the Congress and BJP candidates by more than 300,000 votes.

Some Congress leaders have accused the AIUDF leadership of being in a secret alliance with the BJP and further instigating communal tensions.

The election results paint a bleak picture for the AIUDF, casting a shadow over the party’s future. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AIUDF chief Ajmal emerged victorious from the Dhubri constituency.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the party won two seats—Karimganj and Dhubri in Assam.
