Assam swelters as heat wave grips region

GUWAHATI: Assam is currently grappling with a severe heat wave, with temperatures soaring at least five degrees above normal in several cities across the state.

According to data from the weather department, Guwahati reported a temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (May 15), marking a departure of 5.4 degrees from the usual average.

Tezpur experienced even higher temperatures, with the mercury soaring to 38.1 degrees Celsius, representing a departure of 7.2 degrees from the normal range.

Similarly, other cities such as Dibrugarh, Silchar, Dhubri, and Jorhat also witnessed temperatures exceeding the usual levels by a few degrees.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted that this hot weather pattern will persist in Assam for the next couple of days.

However, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati has predicted the possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in isolated areas of the state.
