Assam has become unsafe for women under BJP rule.

This was stated by top Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in Assam’s Gohpur.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is on a 2-day tour of Assam for election campaigning.

Priyanka Gandhi on Monday launched an all-out attack on the BJP Government in Assam for rising rate of crimes against women in the State.

Accusing the BJP Government in Assam of turning a blind eye on the rising rate of crimes against women, Priyanka Gandhi said that Assam has the highest crime rate against women in the Country.

Priyanka Gandhi said, “Assam has the highest crime rate against women in the country. The Government has done nothing to stop crimes against women.”

Priyanka Gandhi also said that the upcoming Assam Assembly elections are very important for the women of the State.

“You have the power to vote, you should use it responsibly. These elections are very important for women,” said Priyanka Gandhi.

Notably, Assam topped the chart for rate of crime against women in the Country for the third consecutive year, as per the 2019 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures.

In 2019, Assam reported the highest rate of crimes against women at 177.8 per lakh population.
