Protests against the tree felling have been ongoing since Saturday night. Local residents and student groups have been gathering to express their concerns.

On Saturday, a human chain was formed by around 100 people, including senior citizens, to protest the tree felling. They raised slogans and displayed placards, calling for a balance between development and environmental protection.

A public meeting was also held, with speakers emphasizing the need for community consultation before proceeding with the bridge construction.

This incident follows similar protests last month against tree felling in Dighalipukhuri, which led to a High Court intervention.

The state’s Public Works Department has initiated the tree-cutting process in Bharalumukh as part of a flyover project.

Over 70 trees have been marked for removal. Protesters are demanding a public hearing and community consent before the project proceeds.
