Guwahati: The Assam government has suspended a professor of the Forensic Medicine Department at Nagaon Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) following his arrest in an alleged bribery case linked to the manipulation of a post-mortem report.
The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, issued the suspension order placing Manoj Kumar Singh under suspension pending further investigation.
According to officials, Singh was arrested a few days ago after he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in exchange for altering a post-mortem examination report.
Officials said the forensic professor allegedly demanded and accepted money from the family of a deceased person to manipulate the post-mortem findings. He was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The alleged incident came to light following a directive from the Nagaon district administration.
The case is under investigation, and further legal proceedings are underway.
