Assam today heralded a new era in the state’s medical education sector as the academic session of three medical colleges was inaugurated
Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta inaugurated the academic session for the first batch of 100 students of Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital
Meanwhile, Assam tourism minister Jayanta Mallabaruah also inaugurated the academic session for the first batch of 100 students of Nalbari Medical College & Hospital
With the inauguration of these three new medical colleges, the number of MBBS seats in Assam has rose to 1500
Moreover, a total of 1500 students have started classes in twelve medical colleges of Assam from September 1, 2023
Sarma said that Assam would have 21 medical colleges by 2030 and the state would soon become a medical education hub with facilities like new cancer hospitals, paramedic and dental colleges too
He also said that the number of PG seats in medical colleges of the state would become up to 1000 by 2026-27
He also said that the ratio of MBBS and PG seats of medical colleges in Assam would soon be among the best in India
