Aranyak Saikia is the son of former Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, who headed the state police force in 2019.

Guwahati: The Assam government has appointed 2020-batch IAS officer Aranyak Saikia as the new District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong as part of a major administrative reshuffle, an official notification issued on December 24 said.

Saikia, who earlier served as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary of Assam, replaces Nirala Phangshopi, a 1995-batch Assam Civil Service officer, who has been transferred as Additional Secretary to the Hill Areas Department.

Aranyak Saikia is the son of former Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, who headed the state police force in 2019. The former DGP is also a noted litterateur and recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015 for his short stories, and has served as president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha.

The reshuffle involves the transfer and posting of 13 district commissioners and senior officials across the state, the notification said. The Governor of Assam ordered the transfers in the interest of public service through the Personnel Department.

Among other key postings, the government transferred Sumit Sattawan from Kamrup (Metropolitan) to Tinsukia and appointed Swapneel Paul as District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metropolitan). The government moved Aayush Garg from Sivasagar to Cachar and posted Mridul Yadav from Cachar to Sivasagar.

The government posted Dibakar Nath from Dhubri to Bongaigaon and transferred Nabadeep Pathak from Bongaigaon to Dhubri. It appointed Simi Karan, currently Joint Secretary in the Environment and Forest Department, as District Commissioner of Tamulpur, replacing Pankaj Chakravarty, whom it posted to Kokrajhar.

The government shifted Masanda Magdalin Pertin from Kokrajhar and appointed her Joint Secretary in the Finance Department. It gave Pubali Gohain, Secretary in the Home and Political Department, additional charge of Darrang district.

The government transferred Pulak Mahanta from Golaghat and appointed him Inspector General of Prisons, while Parag Kumar Kakaty took charge as District Commissioner of Golaghat.
