Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi has appealed to all sections of the people of Kamrup (Metro) to abide by the lockdown protocols as the district including Guwahati city are going into the fifth phase of total lockdown from June 28.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Governor Prof Mukhi said, “In spite of all sincere efforts to contain the spurt of novel coronavirus infection, positive cases in Guwahati are increasing alarmingly, thereby posing a grave danger to the lives of the people.”
“Therefore, exhausted with all options to check the spike in viral infection, the government is bound to clamp a fresh bout of lockdown in the city for 14 days,” the statement read.
“I, therefore, earnestly appeal to all sections of the people to follow lockdown guidelines and stop all avoidable and non-essential ventures outside to help the government control the spread of the virus,” he stated.
He also said cooperation thus rendered to make the 14 days lockdown successful and impactful would also amount to honouring the relentless and resolute demeanour of all the frontline warriors who braving their lives have plunged into the battle of beating the pandemic.
