Guwahati: In a key meeting in Guwahati on Sunday, Assam officials joined hands with Invest India to explore strategies for increasing foreign investment in the state.
The session, guided by Ravi Kota and Nivruti Rai, focused on identifying sectors with strong potential for international investors.
Nivruti Rai explained how Invest India functions as a central support system for investors, assisting both domestic and foreign stakeholders throughout the investment lifecycle.
Operating under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the agency ensures projects are implemented smoothly from start to finish.
Assamโs investment prospects span a wide array of industries, Kota noted, naming defence, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals as key priorities, along with tourism, agriculture, petrochemicals, semiconductors, and hydropower.
The stateโs strategic position in Indiaโs Northeast, combined with ongoing infrastructure development and a growing industrial ecosystem, makes Assam increasingly attractive to potential investors, he added.
Plans were made to focus on selected high-potential sectors during the initial collaboration phase, aiming to leverage Assamโs strengths and set the stage for sustainable economic growth.
Officials agreed to organize a follow-up brainstorming session within two months to develop a long-term plan for boosting FDI. The discussions will also explore avenues to strengthen trade and economic ties with ASEAN countries under the Act East Policy, utilizing Assamโs proximity to these markets.
Emerging industries, such as Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), were given special attention, with investment opportunities linked to the upcoming Tata Electronics OSAT facility in Jagiroad identified as a priority for collaboration.
By combining infrastructure improvements, sector-specific initiatives, and international partnerships, Assam aims to create a more attractive environment for foreign investors and secure a stronger presence in the global investment landscape.
