The Darrang police has busted a gambling racket and arrested seven gamblers from Kharupetia in Assam’s Darrang district.

The police conducted an operation at the municipal ward no 3 of Kharupetia on Friday night during which they busted the racket.

They also seized playing cards and cash amounting to Rs 3,000 from the possession of the gamblers.

The accused were booked under the provisions of the Assam Games and Betting Act and remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.

The police have in the past 24 hours arrested about 10 persons for their involvement in different illegal activities in different parts of Dhubri.

Earlier on Thursday night, the police arrested three persons from Borigaon, Kunakata and Botabari villages under the Dalgaon Police Station and seized six kilograms of cannabis from them.

The seized contraband is worth around Rs 1.80 lakh in the market.

The accused were booked under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

They were produced in the local court on Friday, which remanded them to judicial custody.
