Two persons died on the spot while 3 others were seriously injured in a road mishap at Kharupetia in Darrang district on Wednesday.
The incident took place on the National Highway-15 near Balugaon wholesale vegetable market, also known as Alikash Bazar under Kharupetia police station in Darrang district.
The mishap took place when two motorcycles collided head-on with a truck with registration no AS-01-DD-6333 coming from the opposite direction.
The two riders of the ill-fated motorcycles died on the spot while 3 others were injured.
The injured were immediately taken to the hospital, said police.
As the news spread like wildfire, the locals gathered in the site of the incident.
The locals staged a protest on the National Highway and blocked the road demanding justice.
A team of high-level police officials rushed to the protest site and managed to free the road.
Till filing of the report, the police have not been able to identify the victims.
