Biswanath District Committee of the CPI (M) also alleged that the ongoing update process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is not an error-free one due to which many innocent and genuine Indian citizens are suffering.

According to the Biswanath District Committee of the CPI (M), 40-year-old Amila Sah, wife of Ram Dulal Sah, is a permanent resident of Jamugurihat-Dholaibeel area under Jamugurihat police station of Sonitpur district.

“Amila Sah is the daughter of late Keshab Prashad Gupta, an inhabitant of Pratapgarh Tea Estate and they have been living in Assam since the British regime. Besides their names are available in 1951 legacy data,” the Biswanath District Committee of CPI (M) stated.

Extending support towards the NRC updating process, she had submitted all the requisite documents including legacy data and PAN card to prove herself as an Indian citizen.

“Despite doing all these, Amila Sah has been sent to the detention camp which has proved that the on-going NRC updating process cannot be said to be an error-free one,” The CPI(M) district unit rued further questioning how a person belonging to the Bihari community can be a foreigner, who was born and brought up in Indian soil.

They also alleged that for many a time the border police use to give report on this serious issue without any cross-checking due to which  many genuine Indian citizens have been kept behind the bar with foreigner tag.

On the other hand, the family members of the victim – Amila Sah – while reacting to the act of the Foreigners’ Tribunal said that one of the three sons of Amila Sah is studying BA in Jamugurihat THB College.
