Flood strengthens bonds between the communities at Lezai Higher secondary school relief camp in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Every year the school is used as a relief camp for the flood affected people.

Around 110 inmates are living at the relief camp this time.
Every year floods create havoc in the Lezai and Kalakhowa area of Dibrugarh district.
This time as many as 58 villages are affected in the flood.
The people from different communities are living under the same roof of the school amid all differences.
The people are helping each other in the time of crisis.
Shankar Thakur, 50 years old said that for last four days they are living at the relief camp.
“We are living here since Sunday after flood water started entering our houses. Every year our area gets affected by flood and we have to take shelter in the relief camp. After the flood, the relief camp is the only shelter,” he said.
“We are living with each other and we have no differences. We have a strong bond since many years because during flood we have to live in the same relief camp,” said Thakur.
Shankar and his family are originally from Bihar and since many years they are living here.
“We are the part of Assamese society because we are living here since many days. In our village we have a mixed population and all people helped each other,” said Thakur.
People from Adivasi, Bihari and Assamese community are living together at the relief camp.
“We have lost everything in flood but still we are living happily in the relief camp. The people are friendly at the relief camp and everybody helps each other,” said Anita Munda, a 30-year-old inmate of the relief camp.
“We are all victims of flood. We are living at the relief camp since Friday. Every year during flood the relief camp become the second shelter for us and we have to stay here till flood water come down from our house,” she added.
Meanwhile, the district administration is taking all necessary measures for the flood victims.
The district administration is providing relief materials to the flood affected people in the Lezai Kalakhowa area.
Four pregnant women are living at the relief camp.
But three of them have been shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital.
