Flood in Bajali

Due to incessant rains in the last few days, the swollen waters of rivers Kaldia, Pahumara and Deozara inundated various places, roads, and paddy field in the Bajali sub-division under Barpeta district.

The rising waters of river Kaldia breached the embankment at Akaya village and created havoc in the surrounding areas.

About 50 metres of the the embankment have been washed away and the flood waters have inundated a large area.

Road communication through the Madan Routa PWD Road – which connects the National Highway at Patacharkuchi with Bhutan – has been affected.

Flood waters are flowing on the road in various places.

The waters of river Deozara and Kaldia have also inundated paddy fields in Doloigaon, Pahala Bichankuchi, Uluwa, Akaya Nityananda areas.

The Shiva Durga Dham of Patacharkuchi has also been submerged by flood waters.

Meanwhile, the flood situation is still in grim in the sub-division as the water level is in rising trend. The residential areas and paddy fields of Nanda Supa, Dakshin Hati, Charan Supa, Bayan Supa, Panbari, Kurobaha, Bichankuchi and Bichankuchi have been affected by the flash flood.

One handloom training centre has also been affected by flood waters.

In Uzan Uluwa, one poultry farmer informed that his farm has been submerged by flood waters as a result he has lost 2000 numbers of broiler chicken.

Meanwhile, the communications from Kenduguri to Chouliabari road have been disrupted as a major portion of the road submerged by the surging waters of river Pahumara.

The flood waters overflowing the embankment in Bongaon have submerged the Bongaon HS School as a result of which classes have been cancelled for two days.

Flood waters entered the whole school campus including the room of the principal and the classes rooms.

“The flood waters also reportedly damaged the furniture and water pump of the institution,” informed Principal Tikendra Nath Kalita.

The road linking Anchalik College (Junior) Bongaon also inundated by flood waters.
