Torrential rainfall in many parts of the State has caused flash floods, making people’s lives miserable.

The incessant rains, have caused the Difolu river to overflow, which has affected the normal life of the people in Bokakhat sub-division with the National Highway 37 at Lotabari inundated by rain water.

As per reports, around 700 metre of the national highway in Lotabari area is submerged which affected road communication with other parts of the State.

The floods also destroyed several hectares of crops in Siljuri, Kakjuri and Panbari area in Bokakhat.

The Bokakhat administration and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have jointly launched a rescue operation in the flooded area.

Many areas are filled with sand and stones that the rain water brought from Karbi hill.

Locals alleged that illegal excavation in the Karbi hill is the root cause of the devastation.

Besides, the overflowed water of the Kohora river has also inundated the Kaziranga National Park partially.

No reports of causalities have been reported till now.

It may be mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government has sanctioned Rs 480.87 crore for the state as flood relief for the year 2018-19.
