Kharupetia police in Assam’s Darrang district busted a fake gold racket and arrested six persons.
The police also recovered a boat-shaped object made of fake gold weighing around 640 gm.
It is suspected that the group of six persons was planning to sell the fake gold duping some customers.
Police said necessary verification will be done to identify the object, said police on Wednesday.
A luxury car, bearing registration number AS-07 R 8882 was also seized in connection with the seizure.
On the basis of secret information, the Kharupetia police on Tuesday evening carried out an operation on the National Highway-15 passing through the Kharupetia town and arrested six persons.
The arrested persons have been identified as Wahed Ali (25) of No. 1 Islampur village, Abdul Kadir (30) of Gohaindalani village, Dulal Hussain (25) of Gohaindalani village, Akramul Ali(23) of No. 1 Mirisi Gaon, Mafidul Islam (30) of No. 1 Ahmedpur and Dilowar Hussain (33) of No. 2 Mirisi gaon.
They were arrested while they were on the way towards Guwahati.
All of them belong to areas under the Bihpuria police station in the Lakhimpur district.
The police also recovered Rs 22,800 and 9 mobile handsets from their possession.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Kharupetia police station and legal procedures are being followed, police said.
