Assam Government has provided a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh for the treatment of eminent vocalist Dipali Borthakur.

Borthakur, a yesteryear singer and a Padma Shri awardee, is known as the ‘Nightingale of Assam’.

The Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami visited her residence on Tuesday and handed over the cheque to her husband and noted artist Nilpaban Baruah, an official release said.

Goswami also took stock of her health and prayed for early recovery.

The 77-year old vocalist, has been suffering from a motor neuron disease for the past four decades.

Dipali Borthakur was born to Bishwanath Borthakur and Chandrakanti Devi of Sivasagar, Assam.

Dipali Borthakur started her career as a singer early. When she was reading in class nine, in 1958, she sang the song “Mor Bopai Lahori” on All India Radio, Guwahati and the song “Joubone Amoni Kore Chenaidhon” for the film Lachit Borphukan (1959).

Some of her other popular Assamese songs are Sonor Kharu Nalage Muk, Jundhone Junalite, Konmana Boroxire Sip, Senai Moi Jau Dei, O’ Bondhu Somoi Pale Amar Phale.
