Commissioner of excise Rakesh Kumar has directed officials of the excise department to regularly monitor operations of all distilleries, breweries and bottling plants in the state as part of enforcement of excise laws ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections in Assam.
The excise commissioner also asked the officials to monitor all wholesale warehouses and retail shops located in the bordering areas of the state.

Kumar interacted with officials of different departments during an inter-state/ district coordination meeting held in Dibrugarh on Friday.

Issues relating to the constitution of a district-level task force comprising excise and police officials and daily reports on enforcement activities were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting also focused on the coordination of the district administration with police and excise officials of neighboring states to check the sale of illegal liquor and the establishment of check posts at vulnerable locations along the border.
Several other relevant issues were also discussed in order to ensure the smooth completion of the upcoming assembly elections in Assam.
The deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Charaideo and Sivasagar districts and representatives of Mon district of Nagaland and Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh were also present on the occasion.
