Guwahati: A wild elephant died after being electrocuted in Assam’s Sonitpur district after allegedly coming in contact with a transformer near Chariduar.
According to reports, the elephant had strayed out of the Balipara Reserve Forest in search of food during the night when it came into contact with the transformer.
The animal suffered a fatal electric shock and died on the spot, officials said.
Forest personnel reached the area after being informed of the incident and initiated necessary procedures. The exact circumstances surrounding the electrocution are under investigation.
The incident comes amid recurring instances of elephants venturing into human habitations adjoining forest areas in search of food.
