Dhemaji district police apprehended three persons involved in drugs peddling on Sunday.

Two of the drug peddlers were caught at Kemi village along the Assam-Arunachal boundary.

The drugs peddlers were caught by local Village Defence Party (VDP) on suspicion.

The VDP team later handed over the drug peddlers to Jonai police for action.

The police team immediately rushed to Kemi village spot and arrested Nitish Patir (26) and Kung Pegu (37) on the spot.

The police also seized 15 gm of brown sugar, two packets of Marijuana (Bhang) and cash amount of Rs 3,100 from their possession.

The 3 arrested persons are native of Jonai sub-division and are reportedly involved in the illicit business since long.

The police following the duo’s statement later raided the residence of one Sanjeeb Agarwalla-Miri (40) at Murkongselek village near Jonai town.

Police recovered about 20 gm of Psychotropic drugs with 20 gm Opium, an apparatus used for opium intake and cash amounting to Rs 65,000 from his residence.

Police said accused Agarwalla-Miri admitted to his involvement in drugs trade for the last several years.

A case (No. 83/2019) under sections- 18(a)/21(a)/21(b)/27/29 of NDPS Act has been registered against the trio in this regard and they were remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

The police refrained from disclosing more regarding the case for the sake of further investigation.

Dhemaji police following operations earlier arrested more than 10 people involved in drugs trade at different places of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary.

Meanwhile, Dhemaji district police have developed a network with Arunachal Pradesh police and social organizations like Women against Social Evils and Adi Baane Kebang (Woman) of Pasighat to control drugs trade at the state boundary area.
