Dhubri Police arrested a drug peddler in the Bahadurtary area of Dhubri town and seized a huge consignment of contraband cough syrups worth Rs 5 lakh.

The arrested drug peddler has been identified as 38-year-old Kurban Ali, a resident of Bahadurtary area under Ward No 11 of Dhubri town.

Police said acting on specific information, a police team conducted a search operation at the residence of Kuban Ali and recovered the consignment in the late evening on Monday.

It is suspected that the consignment was brought from the neighbouring state of West Bengal to be sold in the district.

The drug paddler and the seized items have been handed over to the Dhubri Sadar police station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, in another drive launched by the Border Security Force (BSF) at Kalaibari area under Mankachar PS of South Salmara Mankachar district on Monday late night, about 930 Yaba tablets were seized.

BSF troops of 6 Bn of BSF under Diara Border Outpost (BOP) while carrying out a special operation in the general area of Kalabari village seized 930 Yaba tablets on the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The consignment was seized as it was being thrown over the fence from India to Bangladesh, the BSF informed.

“The seized item has been handed over to Mankachar PS for further legal action,” BSF said.
